Constraints

Not suitable if the grout is required to be chemically resistant or completely impermeable such as for hospitals or laboratories.

Exceeds the requirements of BS EN 13888 for CG2

Joint width 1 – 10mm
Working time (pot life) 1 hour
Set time 5 hours (frost resistant when set)
Temperature 5°C to 35°C during application, frost resistant resistance when set
Water addition 0.30 litres/kg

Note: setting times are quoted at 20°C and are temperature and humidity dependent

Preparation

Before grouting, ensure that the adhesive has set and the tiles are firm. Ensure that the joints are clear of adhesive and free from contamination. Most natural stones will require impregnating before grouting to prevent staining.

Some tiles are prone to scratching during grouting and others can be stained by coloured grout. Test for both cases on a spare tile before commencing grouting. Sealing of natural stone is highly recommended prior to grouting.

Mixing

The mix ratio is approx. 3 parts of grout to 1 part water, by volume (normal usage requires 1.5 litres per bag). Add the powder gradually to clean water and mix to a smooth stiff paste. Allow to stand for 5 minutes and remix thoroughly. Do not rewet, over-water or use a sloppy grout mix as this will cause weakness and discolouration.

Application

Do not use at temperatures below 5°C.

Using a squeegee or a rubber float, apply the grout to a small area at a time. Completely fill the joints leaving no voids. Excess grout should be removed immediately using a rubber float held at 90° to the tiles. This should be moved diagonally across the tiles to prevent removal of grout within the joints.

When the grout has become firm in the joints, approx. 25 – 35 minutes, the tiles should be cleaned with a damp clean emulsifying pad. Do not use excessive water. This should be used in a circular motion to loosen the grout residue. The tiles should now be wiped with a clean damp sponge until all residue is removed. For best results lightly run a clean damp sponge along the joints to finish them.

When dry, polish the tiles with a clean, dry cloth.

Tools and equipment should be washed in water immediately after use.

Allowance for movement

Flexible joints should be incorporated to allow for slight movements due to change in temperature, humidity etc. as indicated by BS 5385:

a)Where the tiling meets other materials (e.g. floor perimeters).

b)Along all internal corners – vertically and horizontally.

c) Over existing movement joints or changes in background material.

d) Dividing large tiled areas into bays (every 3-4.5m on walls, 8-10m on floors)

Packaging

Packed in plastic lined paper sacks. White, Jasmine, Beige, Grey, Charcoal and Black: 5 kg.

Coverage

Coverage is approx. 0.2 – 0.8 kg/m² depending on tile and joint size.

For example:

Tile size (mm) (l x w x d) Joint Width (mm) Coverage (kg/m²)
25 x 25 x 4 2 0.84
100 x 100 x 6 2 0.31
200 x 200 x 6 2 0.16
300 x 300 x 8 5 0.43
400 x 400 x 10 5 0.48
